Lynchburg, VA - Two of the men killed by the Navy Yard shooter have ties to Lynchburg. They both sent their college-aged daughters to Liberty University.
Frank Kohler lived in Tall Timbers, Maryland, but according to Campbell County real estate records, he and his wife bought a house and about 50 acres on English Tavern Road in July. The Kohler's two daughters, Meghan, 19, and Alex, 18, are both enrolled at Liberty.
Martin Bodrog was a retired Navy officer, who still oversaw the design of ships. His daughter, Isabel Bodrog, 23, graduated from Liberty just this past May.
Dr. Mark Hine, Senior Vice President for Student Affairs at Liberty University says the mood was somber Wednesday morning when students, faculty, and staff prayed for the families in convocation.
"It seemed rather, I guess, just strange that all the way in DC, a dozen people and two of the families would have had students here at Liberty," said Hine. "It just seemed like wow, can this really be happening?"
There is another link to the university and what happened in Washington on Monday. Dr. Barry Moore is the Vice President for Outreach and Strategic Partnerships at LU. His son is a Naval Officer at the yard. Some of the civilian victims worked under Moore's son.
