South Boston, VA - Halifax County made a giant leap forward in economic development with the opening of a new coatings facility.
The National Center for Coatings Application, Research, and Education - or C-Care - has been in the works for two years.
The 12,000 square foot facility in South Boston is staffed by the American Wood Finishing Institute.
They plan to generate revenue by leasing the coatings technology and technicians to large corporations.
"With the amount of effort and resources that were brought to bear here in Halifax County, it means the world to us to have it and I think its going to make a difference for our economy," said Matt Leonard, executive director of the Halifax County Industrial Development Authority.
The county is excited about what this means for the Southside and hopes the facility will create opportunities for workforce training to fight unemployment.
