Myrtle Beach Stays Alive, Defeats Salem 4-1

Myrtle Beach - Myrtle Beach staved off elimination in the Carolina League Southern Division Championship Series, beating Salem 4-1 Thursday night in Myrtle Beach.

The Pelicans, after falling behind 1-0 after the first two innings, took their first lead in the third. Myrtle Beach scored three runs in the third, two coming on a Preston Beck triple. The next batter, former LU star Ryan Cordell, chopped one back to the mound but Salem pitcher Pat Light couldn't get the handle, allowing Beck to score from third to make it 3-1.

The Pelicans added the final run of the game in the 5th when Chris Grayson tripled and scored on a sac fly by Chris Bostick.

The third and deciding game of the series is Friday night in Myrtle Beach. The winner advances to face Potomac in the Carolina League Mills Cup Championship Series.
