Sedalia, VA - Fans of blues music came out to the Sedalia Center in Bedford Co. to take in the annual Blues Festival Saturday. The event was an afternoon of fun and music.

Blues musicians competed all afternoon Saturday to see who would represent the Sedalia Blues Society in the International Blues Challenge in Memphis in January.

ABC 13's own Noreen Turyn served as emcee for the event.

The Sedalia Blues Society puts together the event every year, part of the Blues Foundation in Memphis. The foundation works to preserve and promote and maintain blues music through education and outreach.

The competition began at 1 p.m. Saturday and ended at 6 p.m.

The winner in the solo/duo category was James Painter, and the winner in the band category was The Clarence Turner Band. The top three winners in both categories were awarded cash prizes as well, though there were only two competing in the solo/duo category.

Last year's winner, The Deanie Blues Band peformed in the evening, opening for the headliner, The Kings of Memphis, who won the International Blues Challenge in Memphis this past January.
