Two Years Since Morgan Harrington Disappeared

Charlottesville, VA - Two years ago to the day the 20-year-old Virginia Tech student was seen alive, her family is vowing to hunt down her killer.

Morgan Harrington's parents marked the anniversary with a new mission: save other families with missing children from going through their pain. They also said they're going to use every tool out there - the news media, social media, DNA evidence and investigators to bring their daughter's murderer to justice.

"We will leave no stone unturned," said Morgan's mother, Gil Harrington. "That's what you do when you're looking for the filth and slime that festers in the dark."

Friends and family used the anniversary to launch the 'Help Save the Next Girl' multimedia campaign, reminding young women to make safe choices and connecting other families to national databases like the Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

The site will be available as a tool-kit for families of the 3,000 people who go missing every day.

They gathered on the Copley Road Bridge where a passing motorist reported seeing Morgan Harrington on October 17, 2009. One-hundred-and-one days later, her body was discovered on the Anchorage Farm, about eight miles away. Investigators have said the killer was probably familiar with the area.

"It's a secluded area, wooded, open field," said Sergeant Thomas Maloney with the Virginia State Police.

State police are still following leads, but there are no major developments in the case.

DNA likely links Morgan's killer to a sexual assault in Fairfax County from 2005.

Morgan's mother, wearing the bracelet recovered with her daughter's remains, has this promise for Morgan's killer:

"We are going to fight like hell and we are going to find you," she said.

Morgan's parents have not spoken to the other victim who likely came face to face with their daughter's killer. They say she doesn't live in the United States and are respecting her request for privacy.
