Money to Provide Rides for Wheelchair Bound Veterans
Lynchburg, VA - About 100 area veterans will get rides to medical appointments thanks to the Exchange Club of Lynchburg.
Exchange Club president Lynne Creasy presented a $3,000 check to the American Legion Veterans Council during a lunch meeting Friday.
The money will pay for transportation for wheelchair bound veterans in Lynchburg and surrounding counties to the VA clinic in Lynchburg or Salem VA Medical Center.
"We have approximately 40% of our veterans who do not go to their medical appointments in all of the counties and the City of Lynchburg, 40% who can't go because they can't afford to. That's a huge number," said Sarah Maddox, Veterans Council Co-Founder.
The program helps veterans who aren't eligible for financial assistance from the VA for transportation. Trips are coordinated with VA approved transport services.
