Modest Turnout in Lynchburg City Council Election

Lynchburg, VA-The City of Lynchburg voted to keep some familiar faces on city council Tuesday. But they also made local history, electing the first African American woman to the group.

Incumbents Joan Foster and Randy Nelson won their at-large seats for another term. And new-comer Treney Tweedy will be joining them. Treney beat out incumbent H. Cary for the spot.

It was a modest turnout in yesterday's election, with only 17.4% of registered voters casting ballots. That means out of 53,068 registered voters in the Hill City, only 9,209 of them made it to the polls.
