Blacksburg - Running back Michael Holmes will NOT be a part of this year's Virginia Tech backfield.
The 20-year-old tailback has been kicked out of school after being convicted of assault and battery last month. Athletics department spokesman Bryan Johnston said the decision was made by Tech's student judicial panel. Holmes had been charged with malicious wounding, a felony, after a fight in late April. He was convicted of a reduced charge and given a suspended sentence which could have paved the way for reinstatement to the team. But that won't happen now with Holmes no longer a part of the university.
