Axton,VA-- More than 200 soccer players in Martinsville put their skills to the test to raise funds to help fight cancer on Friday and Saturday.
The Dolores Sullivan Kick for a Cure event raised money for the American Cancer Society Relay for Life in Martinsville. Players took part in 12 one hour matches this weekend at the Smith River Sports Complex.
A local soccer coach put the event together to help raise funds, and honor his mother who passed away from cancer. The organizer said it's been a great way to get the local soccer community together.
"The amount of soccer resources that we have in this area, plus here at the Smith River Sports Complex, what a better way to raise funds for cancer research , one to honor my mom, two to raise funds, than to do this," said Patrick Sullivan, event organizer.
They raised more than $2,400.
