Bedford, VA - More than 75 people came out to the prisoner of war, missing in action, awareness event in Bedford Saturday morning.
The event was supposed to be held at the D-Day Memorial, but was moved into Bedford Elementary School due to bad weather.
The ceremony began with the presentation of the colors and the singing of the National Anthem.
The keynote speaker was Adrian Cronauer, who inspired the movie, and famous quote: "Good Morning Vietnam."
Organizers say the goal of the event is to remind people of current and former POW's and MIA's.
"We not only need to remember those who serve our country but we need to as Americans take responsibility for those who are yet unaccounted for," said April Cheek-Messier.
Despite the weather, event organizers say the rain did not dampen their spirit, and America's heroes were still honored.
