Martinsville, VA - Martinsville Police are investigating the homicide of a longtime Republican Party Chairman.
It happened on Parkview Avenue, around 2:00pm Tuesday afternoon.
Police say they arrived for a burglary call, and found the body of Donald Lawson. Lawson served as the chair of the Henry County party for 14 years.
He was also a longtime businessman in the area. Don Lawson's van was allegedly missing from the home when authorities arrived.
Neighbors we spoke with said they didn't hear anything unusual. Police say the van was recovered late last night in Henrico County. They've charged two people in connection with the incident: Kenneth Brian Smith of Martinsville and Amanda Gail Alexander of Martinsville.
We're told "Kenny" worked for Lawson for a number of years at Lawson Home Furnishing.
No word yet on the official cause of death.
We're told a memorial service and funeral have tentatively been set for this Saturday.

Police say they've charged two people in connection with the incident: 41-year-old Kenneth Brian Smith and 24-year-old Amanda Gail Alexander. Both are from Martinsville.
