Martinsville Man Charged After Shooting and Stabbing

Martinsville, VA - A Martinsville man has been charged after police say he shot a man and stabbed another Friday night.

Police say William Sylvester Matthews II, 42, of Martinsville, has been charged with two counts of malicious wounding, use of a firearm in commission of a felony, and possession of firearm after being involuntarily admitted.

Investigators say Jose Manuel Ramos, 24, of Fieldale was shot in his left leg and left hand around 9:41 p.m. on Abby Lane.

Ramos was transported to Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County, where he was treated and released.

The stabbing victim, Romero Garcia, 33, had to be flown to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center for his injuries. There is no word on his condition.

Matthews is currently being held in the Henry County Jail without bond.
