Martinsville, VA -The Martinsville-Henry County SPCA being flooded with cats, and leaders there say the problem has gotten worse. In the last two days the no-kill shelter has received more than thirty cats, bringing the total up to 170, but the director of marketing says they aren't equipped to handle more than sixty cats.
She says they've had to move dogs to make more room and bring in dozens of volunteers because they don't have a large enough staff to handle them.
"We don't have money to pay extra staff. We don't have the extra money to take care of extra animals, so we really are in desperate need of some help right now, " said Director of Marketing and Development Chase Inman.
The shelter is offering incentives with their adoption program to try to find the kitties a good home as soon as possible.
