Man Turns Himself in After Fatal Accident in Amherst Co.

Matthew Gardner

Amherst Co., VA - The driver who was involved in a deadly accident on Route 29 in Amherst County has turned himself in.

Matthew Gardner turned himself in Wednesday and has since been released.

A special grand jury indicted him earlier this month on involuntary manslaughter and reckless driving charges.

Police say he was driving south on Route 29 near Galts Mill Road in April, when he hit and killed Freddie Perutelli and seriously injured a state trooper.

Two civil suits have also been filed against Gardner on behalf of both victims.
