Lynchburg, VA - It was a scary scene at Lynchburg's Jamerson YMCA Wednesday night, where a man nearly drowned.
Dispatchers say, around 7 p.m. the man in his 30s was involved in a drowning incident. Sources say that man is alive.
Witnesses say the man was swimming in the Y's lap pool, when he lost consciousness and sank to the bottom. They say lifeguards immediately pulled him from the water and began performing CPR. Shortly after, crews took him to Lynchburg General Hospital.
The pool area was evacuated, and stayed closed for the remainder of the night.
"Everybody was freaking out and standing there and one of the lifeguards told us to get off the pool deck and go in the locker room and like 15 minutes later they pull him out on a gurney" said witness, Maryanna Harris.
No word on the man's condition.
