Man Arrested & Extradited Back to VA for Madison Heights Motel Murder

Update 9:22 p.m.:

Amherst Co., VA - Amherst County Sheriff's Investigators say Sylvester Mathew Cheatham was extradited from Wilmington, NC back to Central Virginia Friday.

Officials say Cheatham was arrested for warrants for the first degree murder of his estranged wife Arnita Cheatham and for grand larceny.

Cheatham is being held in the Blue Ridge Regional Jail without bond pending an advisement hearing in Amherst General District Court.


Amherst Co., VA - Investigators in Amherst County say they found the car that belonged to the woman who was found dead in a Madison Heights motel room.

They say the Hyundai Sonata was recovered in Wilmington, North Carolina, around the time Sylvester Cheatham was arrested there. He is the estranged husband of Arnita Cheatham, and was arrested earlier this week for grand larceny by Wilmington officers.

Sylvester Cheatham remains a person of interest in the death of Arnita Cheatham.

She was found dead at the Executive Inn on August 2.

There is still no word on when he will return to Virginia.
