Danville, VA -- Look out for some major changes coming to the Dan Riverwalk Trail soon.
City officials hired contractors to tear up the old viewing area and put in a new one because it was starting to fall apart. Cracks in the concrete, wood deterioration and holes were becoming a safety issue.
On Monday, they started ripping out the existing boards. They also plan to put down new steel and concrete.
"I think it's great. I think the walking trail in general is great for the city of Danville. And I think anything that they can do to improve that is a plus," said Allen Smith, Project Manager for Quality Construction.
Contractors estimate that the project will be completed by mid-March.
