Lynchburg, VA - A Lynchburg teen will represent the Commonwealth at a national competition for young women this summer.
Sabrina Gerlich was named Distinguished Young Woman of Virginia 2013 Saturday evening at Brookville High School.
Gerlich, 18, represented South Lynchburg in the program. She is a senior at E.C. Glass and also attends the Central Virginia Governor's School.
"I was so surprised. I did not expect it for a minute," said Gerlich. "All the girls were so talented and so smart and so it was really surprising."
Gerlich also won the fitness, self-expression, and spirit awards.
She'll compete in the Distinguished Young Women of America program in Mobile, Alabama in June. The program was formerly known as America's Junior Miss.
