Lynchburg Teacher Named Region 5 'Teacher of the Year'
Lynchburg, VA - Officials from Lynchburg City Schools surprised reading specialist Jennifer Lovett at Linkhorne Elementary Thursday morning letting her know she has been named the Region 5 "Teacher of the Year.
She's among eight other teachers statewide now eligible to become Virginia's "Teacher of the Year."
Lovett works with teachers at Linkhorne to show them different reading strategies. She says she's humbled the state panel chose her for this region.
"I feel very honored. I was surprised. I love teaching. It's such an honor, but it's also very humbling because I know there's a lot of people who work hard for our children each day, so it's an honor to be part of Lynchburg city and to receive this," said Lovett.
Also in our area, music teacher and band director Trey Harris III at Bassett High School was named Region 6 "Teacher of the Year.
