Lynchburg Schools Expand Athlete Concussion Policy

Lynchburg, VA - The return to play for student athletes following a concussion is a concern; making sure that they're 100%, before they hit the field again. But that concern applies to the classroom as well.Lynchburg City Schools, at Tuesday night's board meeting, put a concussion policy in place that makes the transition easier for students and teachers. The new "return to learn" policy makes sure teachers are aware of students' medical issues following a concussion and accommodate a gradual return to full classroom participation."So this just incorporates that component so that if you get banged up on Friday night at football, you're not expected to really go in and perform on Monday morning on that big exam that needs to be done" said Ben Copeland, Assistant Superintendent for Operations. The return to learn policy is now a Virginia state schools requirement. It will go into effect just in time for the 2014-2015 school year.
