Lynchburg, VA - A Lynchburg mail carrier just celebrated Christmas and now he's celebrating his last day on the job.
Jay Price has delivered mail for 26 years, walking several miles a day.
Price has been a mail carrier forever and ever. He is conscientious about his job. Kind, you can always see a smile on Price's face, and he's always got a good word to say to you.
"At first, I thought maybe the weather would bother me, but I am retired Air Force, and I was out, a delivery man, a supply, delivery man for the military so the weather didn't really bother me," Price said. The dogs, like I was telling the young man there, I've been here 26 years and I have come close maybe one time."
"The whole adage about rain, sleet, snow is true with him. He is out there, doesn't miss time from work," said Carolyn Johns from Kathryn's Flower & Gift Shop. "He has been a wonderful friend and mailman."
"He found a cat over here in the neighborhood, and brought it to me, and I kept him," Johns continued.
"It's been a good life. I've enjoyed it, and I am ready for retirement," Price concluded.
Price tells us he'll be home now working on a honey-do-list that he says is about two miles long.
