Lynchburg Police Turn Over Friendly Fire Investigation to Commonwealth's Attorney

LYNCHBURG, VA - The Lynchburg police department has turned over its investigation into the accidental shooting of an officer by another officer over to the Commonwealth's Attorney.

Gary Hilber was shot once in the shoulder at the McCausland Ridge apartments a few weeks ago.

Chief Parks Snead says officers were executing a drug-related search warrant when one of the suspects ran off.

They say Hilber was shot during that chase.

Now the Commonwealth's Attorney will review the case.

The police department is still internally reviewing the incident, to make sure it doesn't happen again in the future.
