Lynchburg Police Remember Those Killed in Line of Duty

Lynchburg, VA - Police officers gathered in Lynchburg Tuesday morning for a special service to honor those who paid the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty across Virginia.This ceremony is held every year at Heritage United Methodist on Leesville Road. This year, officers honored a sheriff's deputy from Greensville County who died in a wreck this winter, and a deputy sheriff from Spotsylvania County who passed away from a heart attack during training.Statistics show in our nation's history 20,000 officers have died in the line of duty.Police also say about 58,000 officers are assaulted every year on the job and 16,000 require medical attention.
