Lynchburg Officials: Storm Emergency Response Update

Lynchburg, VA - City officials have released an update regarding the city's response to the June 29 windstorm.

They will hold a press conference Monday at 4 p.m. with more updates.

Here are the updates from Lynchburg officials:

  • City refuse is being collected this week following the normal schedule. Refuse collectors will not be picking up brush during their routes. Brush will be picked up as soon as possible and no call is necessary. Residents are asked to be patient as the City attempts to collect the large amounts of brush throughout the area.
  • Lynchburg residents may take brush and trash to the landfill located on Concord Turnpike where they may dispose of the materials free of charge. Normal fees and regulations are expected to return on Monday, July 16. The news hours for the Concord Turnpike Landfill are 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
  • Residents disposing brush or food waste will not have to use a trash tag or decal for refuse collections this week. Trash tags and/or decals must be used beginning Monday, July 16.
  • Commercial loads must be taken to the Livestock Road Landfill (427 Livestock Road) Monday - Saturday between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
  • Anyone remaining without power is encouraged to report it to AEP through its website at or to call 1-800-956-4237.
  • A portion of Langhorne Road is closed to through traffic beginning today, Monday, July 9. The closure will enable tree removal crews to collect the large amount of brush and downed trees that have been piled along the street. The Langhorne Road closure will be between Cranehill Drive and Rivermont Avenue, including Vassar Street and Oak Lane. Residents and emergency vehicles will retain access.
