Lynchburg Ministry Starts After school Program for Sheffield Elementary Students

Lynchburg, VA - A new partnership between Lynchburg City Schools and a Lynchburg ministry is officially underway.

Monday night, school officials announced, select Sheffield Elementary students will be receiving after school instruction at Hilifavrd Ministries, a church in Lynchburg.

Keith Anderson, the pastor there, began the all-volunteer program in honor of his daughter, a former Sheffield student who passed away in a car accident in 2012.

The after school program is being called "Stitch" in honor of Anderson's late daughter.

It's funded entirely by donations, and staffed by volunteers.

Anderson says it aims to enhance instruction for students needing the extra help, "It's just to meet that need that this child may need just a little extra help and we want to be that help" he said.

The program will be held from 4-6 p.m., every Monday through Friday during the school year.
