Lynchburg Locals Hoping to Win $600 Million in Powerball Jackpot

Roy Scott feels lucky about his Powerball numbers

Lynchburg, VA - The Powerball jackpot is $600 million Saturday, the game's highest prize ever and the world's second largest lottery jackpot.

The chances of winning the Powerball is 1 in 175 million, but that didn't stop some Lynchburg locals from buying their tickets in hopes of scoring big.

Lynchburg resident Roy Scott has a strategy when it comes to playing Powerball. He always picks the same numbers - the lucky six.

"Granbabies' birthdays, children's birthdays, my wife's birthday."

He's been playing the lottery for almost 50 years. He says he came close to winning once with his numbers.

"I would've had all six of them in the Virginia lottery, and I didn't play them that day," he said.

But he says Saturday night, is the night.

"I've got the one ticket that's going to win," he said holding up his ticket.

But not everyone is as strategic as Scott is when choosing numbers.

"Just computer pick," said one player in Lynchburg.

"I just pick any number that comes to my head," said a player.

And even though they know the odds are not in their favor, it's still nice to dream about winning.

"I'd take care of my family, wife, my kids and grandkids and everything. You know, pay off all my bills and stuff," said Billy Tracy.

"I have a son in collegeI think I could find a place for it," said Scott.

And like Scott says, there's always hope you'll be the one.

The winning numbers will be drawn at 11 p.m.
