Lynchburg Launches Citywide Sandy Relief Effort

Lynchburg, VA - Lynchburg is launching a citywide relief effort for victims of Sandy.

Mayor Mike Gillette announced the initiative Thursday at a news conference at Fire Station 1.

You can drop off items at any Lynchburg City firehouse. The items will be turned over to the Red Cross, Salvation Army, and Gleaning for the World for distribution.

Former Mayor Jim Whitaker put it all together.

"Our desire is to give the people in our community the opportunity to give to people we will never meet, we'll never know," said Whitaker.

Only new items can be accepted. They're also asking that you not bring money to the fire stations, but donate it to the organizations directly instead.

We have a list of items needed here.
