Lynchburg Holds Community Meeting on Allen Morrison Future
Lynchburg, VA- The City of Lynchburg held a community meeting Thursday night to discuss the future of the Allen Morrison Property on Rutherford Street.
The city took over the property in 2002 and has been working on an environmental assessment of the area. Kay Frazier with the Parks and Recreation Department says the city is now applying for a special grant to help fund the environmental remediation of the site.
"We have some soils that need to be removed and disposed of properly. We'll talk about some of the chemicals we found in the soil through the cite assessment, and our goal is to completely reduce the risk to the public," said Frazier.
Frazier says the city would like to complete the remediation process, and then begin talks on making the site into a park.
