Lynchburg Group Hosts Community Clean Up

Lynchburg, VA - A group of more than 20 Lynchburg high school alumni athletes took part in a community clean up Monday.

The SHOPO foundation for youth organized a group that went around the blocks surrounding R.S. Payne Elementary School, picking up trash all along the way.

SHOPO's founder, B.B. Shavers is a former E.C. Glass football standout. He says this event helps promote the foundations goal to provide a safe and positive community for the youth in Lynchburg.

Not to mention Shavers says it's a great way to bridge the rivalry between Heritage and E.C. Glass alumni.

"What we want to do now is just change the attitude inside the city with most of the rivals, because it's about a collective group of guys coming back and bringing something positive to the city" said Shavers.

The group's largest fundraiser is an alumni football game between E.C. Glass and Heritage, scheduled for October 5th.
