A grant from the Virginia Department of Health will help SNAP benefits go a lot further at the Lynchburg Community Market.
The 5-thousand dollar grant will allow the community market to double dollar tokens for SNAP recipients.
The market will allow this until the grant money runs out.
Market Manager Jennifer Kennedy says it's a great way for families to discover new foods and recipe ideas, saying that "It's a great way that, not only can they get more food for their family, but it also allows people who are on kind of a low income, the opportunity to be a little more creative."
The market received a similar grant last year - worth 10-thousand dollars.
That money lasted 32 weeks... and increased SNAP spending at the market by almost 50 percent.
