Lynchburg, VA - Lynchburg College kicked off its annual Homelessness Awareness Week Saturday.
They hosted a poverty conference on campus where many shared about hunger, food waste, and the need for housing and education. They will have events all week long for students to learn more and take action against the issue and most of the events are student led.
"The conference is to bring awareness of poverty and hunger issues that are here in Lynchburg and also how they might be able to get into the community and help with advocacy or hunger and poverty issues," said Christine Gibbons who is the Director of Community Involvement at Lynchburg College.
Some students will even be sleeping outside on the campus to simulate what it's like to be homeless, and many will participate in fundraisers to raise money for local organizations.
