Lynchburg, VA - Lynchburg Beacon of Hope made a big announcement at Heritage High School Friday. The nonprofit received a $100,000 "Challenge Gift."
Elliot and Rosel Schewel made the donation. They say they'll match that amount that Beacon of Hope now has to raise.
This money will go toward maintaining the "Future Centers" created at Heritage and EC Glass High Schools.
The centers serve as college and career advising hubs for students.
""Increasing the quality of life for everybody. So really makes a difference in the student's life if they can go and get some additional training. And we know that will help them earn more the rest of their lives," said Rosel Schewel.
Beacon of Hope also announced that city councilwoman and former mayor Joan Foster will be the new Director of Development.
