Lynchburg, VA - The airport director is still trying to keep the Lynchburg Regional control tower from closing May 5.
Mark Courtney will meet with the Virginia Aviation Board next week, to ask for grant money to keep the tower open temporarily.
Courtney also met with Senator Tim Kaine Wednesday. He says the Senator is willing to provide whatever assistance he can in Washington.
"We're trying to buy time and to give us some leeway and keep the tower open so that when a more permanent legislative solution is found, we're not in a position that we have to try to get up to speed, mobilize everything to get a tower reopened again," said Courtney.
Courtney informed the FAA on a conference call yesterday that he is looking for ways to keep the tower open past the closure deadline.
