Lynchburg, VA - For 50 years Lynchburg Sheltered Industries has been living up to their motto: "Manufacturing with a mission" and Thursday night, they celebrated.
A dinner was held in honor of the 50 year anniversary of LSI. The non-profit organization provides employment for the disabled.
It was parents of children with disabilities that had the idea to start the organization a half century ago.
Since, it has helped more than 1,000 disabled people in the Lynchburg gain valuable work experience.
The event, hosted by Lynchburg Mayor Mike Gillette aimed to honor all those who have supported LSI over the past five decades.
"I think it's a shining example of an organization that not only provides a service to individuals with disabilities, but it's also providing a service to the community at large" said Cecil Kendrick, LSI's Executive Director
In addition to helping the disabled, LSI provides manufactured goods to many area businesses.
