Lynchburg, VA - Liberty University says it has put fears to rest about its Treasure Island property because it removed the old bridge that was once the main access from the city to the island.
The bridge was washed out by a flood in 1985, and since then, a lot of people complained about it.
So the city took it up with LU officials who then decided to have it removed.
The work will take about four weeks because the bridge has to be cut apart, loaded on a barge and taken around the island.
The island was first used as a youth camp. Now the university is trying to decide what to do with the land, saying they may create athletic fields that would be for the public too
