Lynchburg - The first part of the LU men's season is in the books. Now the Flames open Big South Conference play Wednesday night with a tough test at Radford.
LU completed the first half of its season 6-and-9 overall with Saturday's 80-74 loss to Princeton. The Flames gave the 11-and-2 Tigers all they wanted, John Caleb Sanders scored 25. Tomasz Gielo had a big scoring game, pouring in 20. LU played well overall but came up a little short.
LU Head Coach Dale Layer said "To get a real momentum lift you need to win. We didn't do that, but it is a game that we improved. And I think we're steadily improving. And I like the team our direction is heading but we're heading into the best team probably arguably in the league at Radford and then at VMI."
Meantime the Lady Flames won two of three on the road last week and handed Coastal Carolina its first Big South loss Saturday afternoon. With the win, their 41st in a row over Coastal, Liberty improves to 8-and-6 overall, 4-and-1 in the Big South in a four-way tie for the conference lead.
