LU Makes Alternate Commencement Plans in Case of Bad Weather

Lynchburg, VA-More than 34,000 people are planning to pack Williams Stadium at Liberty University this Saturday for graduation. But with rain in the forecast, what's the backup plan?

Well, not only does Liberty University have a plan if it rains, they have multiple backup plans dependent upon how hard and how long it rains.

Liberty won't make any decisions until Friday night. At that point if they believe there will be significant rain Saturday morning, the main commencement ceremony will be moved from Williams Stadium into the Vines Center.

This will pose a bit of a problem because more than 34,000 people are expected to attend graduation this year. According to Liberty's website, the Vines center holds just 10,000 people for special events.

But, Luke Gentala, LU's Registrar, says there will be multiple places for friends and family to watch the ceremony.

"We'll move one of the larger ceremonies inside the Vines Center and we'll telecast the actual ceremony out to the other areas," said Gentala.

There will actually be 24 smaller ceremonies Saturday after the main graduation. If there is rain, those may be moved as well. We have a link to Liberty's complete inclement weather plan here.
