Lynchburg, VA - Liberty University is planning to lower Ivy Lake's water level before it starts repairs on a deficient dam.
They were supposed to start draining Saturday, but wanted to give property owners more time to move their boats.
The project could cost about $1 million.
The Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation says the dam's spillway capacity can't handle a large storm event, labeling it as a "high hazard."
Marty Giudice had to row his boat ashore.
"This is the first time in 23 years that this boat has been out of the lake," Giudice said.
Marty's neighbors on Ivy Lake have just a few hours left to do the same.
