London Downs Hosts VSGA Qualifier for State Junior Amateur

Forest - London Downs Golf Course hosted an area qualifier Wednesday for the Virginia State Golf Association Junior Amateur at the end of the month at Hidden Valley. 22 golfers were battling for the top 6 spots to advance. Some great shot-making by these young golfers, South Boston's Jamey Binner with a great pitch over a tree to within inches of the hole at 17, the top pros would have been thrilled with that shot. In the same group, Lexington's Peter Shaner with a nice chip shot to within a few feet of the cup, Shaner shot 76 and advances.

Also at 17, Lynchburg's Branson Terrell (TERR-ell)runs in the long birdie, those guys just showing off for the camera. 14-year-old Basil Boyd of Martinsville tied for the best score, 74, with Ford Zehner of Richmond and JF's Zeke Chen. Martinsville's Wesley Smith and South Boston's Peter Gasperini also advance.

Zeke Chen, a Jefferson Forest rising junior who tied for the best score of the day with a 2-over 74, said "Scrambled a little bit, made some good putts coming down the stretch for par, had a good birdie at number 18. It was more me, I had a new mental approach going into this of not fixing my swing on the course and just playing with what I've got. And I feel like I did that today pretty well."
