Little League Tournament Returns to Lynchburg

Lynchburg, VA - Preparations are underway to welcome 16 Virginia little league baseball teams to Lynchburg.

Thursday kicks off the annual Virginia Little League All-Star tournament. This is the first year the Hill City is hosting since 2007.

Organizers anticipate more than 1,000 people will be in Lynchburg for the seven day event. Players, coaches, parents will all be spending time and money in city restaurants, shops, and hotels.

The Lynchburg Little League President says even though only one team will advance, the event is a huge win for all involved.

"We're trying to put on a good event for the parents and for the kids to play, and it's a great honor to do that because we don't get to do it very often" said Matt Combs, the Lynchburg Little League President.

The winner of the tournament will advance to a regional final, and from there the winner will compete in the little league world series in August.
