Lynchburg, VA - Linkhorne Elementary School's playground will soon be ripped up and replaced. On Friday, students, faculty and parents participated in a "good-bye" ceremony.
Workers will start to tear down the wooden playground in a few weeks. It'll be replaced with safer, metal structures, but it's an expensive project.
The goal is to raise $150,000 in addition to $56,000 already put out by Lynchburg City Schools. They have nicknamed the playground "PAL" or "Play at Linkhorne."
"One of our potential fundraisers would be to sell off chunks of the original PAL so people could have a piece of PAL at their home and also fund phase 2, so we're investigating that option as a potential fundraiser," said Katie Cyphert, project organizer.
There's a meeting about the new playground coming up October 16th at 6 p.m. at Linkhorne Elementary School.
