Bedford, VA - A longtime first responder was honored for his service in Bedford Friday.
Lynch Manley joined the Bedford Life Saving Crew in 1964. Manley ran more than 20,000 calls over 48 years.
Manley was just presented a proclamation by the city and a Lifetime Achievement Award.
"I really enjoyed helping people," said Manley. "I did not enjoy seeing people get hurt, but I enjoyed helping them if they did."
Manley turns 80-years-old later this month. His health now keeps him from running calls, but he still listens to his dispatch radio to keep up with the squad.
