Patrick Co, VA - A popular, well-known banker in the Franklin County area died from injuries he suffered from an accident Sunday morning in Patrick County, according to Virginia State Police.
Larry Heaton, 55, was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Colorado truck southbound on Route 8 in Patrick County about one and a half miles north of Route 605, when his vehicle ran off of the right side of the roadway and hit a tree, according to State Police Spokesperson Sgt. Carpentieri said in a news release Sunday Night.
Heaton was from Collinsville. He was not wearing his seat belt and pronounced dead at the scene.
Heaton is best known to locals in the Franklin County area for helping develop Franklin Community Bank, serving as their president and CEO for a number of years up until the accident. He also volunteered for the Rocky Mount Rotary Club and served on several community boards in the Franklin and Henry County area.
Franklin Community Bank's head branch and operations center is in Rocky Mount at the The Marketplace in Rocky Mount off of Old Franklin Turnpike. It is also where Heaton's office is located. The bank also has branches in Westlake, off of Highway 122, and in Union Hall on Route 40.
Virginia State Police are continuing to investigate the accident.
No word yet from Franklin Community Bank, but a recent employee confirms that it was Heaton (the banker) that died.
