Lynchburg - The L.C.A. girls outscored Bishop O'Connell out of Arlington 18-6 in the third quarter to break open a two-point game at the half, and the Lady Bulldogs rolled to a 60-39 win in the Independent Schools state quarterfinals Wednesday in Lynchburg.
L.C.A. improves to 23-and-3 on the season and advances to Friday's state semifinals. Blue Ridge Conference Player of the Year Gena Penick helped trigger the Bulldogs outburst in the third quarter, taking charge inside while Moriah Begin and Claire Thompson hit 3's on the outside.
Bishop O'Connell led most of the first half before L.C.A. closed the second quarter with a 10-1 run to take a two-point lead at intermission 21-19.
