Lynchburg - 5-year-old Nathan Norman of Rustburg is battling a very aggressive cancer in his brain and spine. Tuesday, Lynchburg College baseball coach Percy Abell signed the Rustburg boy to a letter of intent with the team to be a lifelong LC Hornet, presenting Nathan with a jersey and inviting him to all team functions with the Hornets.
Percy Abell, LYNCHBURG COLLEGE BASEBALL COACH, said "Nathan will get to know everyone as they come in and a long-term commitment for things such as Putt-Putt, baseball games, batting practice, trick-or-treating in a week. So we're gonna keep him completely involved in our program."
Dawn Norman, NATHAN'S MOM, said "He was so excited when he heard his coach was on the other line and he ran and got his hat on and got his badge."
One of Nathan's new requirements as a Hornet is to make at least 40 new friends and as a member of the baseball team, drink plenty of Gatorade and eat sunflower seeds. Coach Abell was also excited when Nathan signed that he's a lefty, Abell saying you can never have enough good left-handed pitching.
