Danville, VA-- Dozens of people gathered at the Ballou Recreation Center in Danville on Thursday night celebrate Kwanzaa.
The holiday starts the day after Christmas and ends on New Years day. There were several dances and lots of music. The crowd also learned about the seven principles of Kwanzaa.
Event emcee Fred Motley for the event said he's been participating in the event for decades years now, and has seen more people have an interest in learning about Kwanzaa.
"Each year we always get new groups of people who don't really know about Kwanzaa," Motley said. "They've heard it but have never come to experience it, which is a wonderful thing."
Motley also said Kwanzaa is about evaluating the year to see how you can make the next year a better one.
