Kogo Wins His Third Virginia 10 Miler

LYNCHBURG - Julius Kogo won the 40th annual Virginia 10 Miler for the second straight year and for the third time overall (2009, 2012, 2013). He won Saturday in a time of 47 minutes, 34 seconds.

Kogo was challenged by the second place finisher Elijah Muturi (48:12) but Kogo began to pull away from him between the 7 and 8-mile mark.

The female winner was Jane Murage of Kenya in 55 minutes, 38 seconds.

45-year-old LC grad Gregg Cavalierre won the Masters division (40 years and older) in 58 minutes, 19 seconds.

-A total of 3,569 people participated in either the 10 Miler, 4 Miler, 4 Mile Walk, or Kids Run.

-Bill Draper, 85, who has run in every single Virginia 10 Miler completed the course once again in 3 hours and 6 minutes.

-15 finishers completed the course in less than 50 minutes. There were 10 under 50 minutes last year.

-The top American finisher was Bobby Mack, an N.C. State graduate. He finished eighth.

-25 men completed the race before the first place woman.
