Justin Case for May 11, 2012

'Twas the night before tomorrow and all through the house, not a creature was stirring, not even my 6-month-old son Benjamin.

All you parents out there know what I'm talking about. The sweet, sweet sound of silence. Getting your kid to sleep through the night is like someone else paying your bills or hitting a bulls eye with three straight darts. Does it happen every night? No. But when he sleeps for 9-plus hours it's like heaven in a 12-ounce glass of Leinenkugel (look it up).

As for sports - it's May and that means it's about to be crunch time for area high school and colleges.

College baseball seems like it's been gone for weeks because Tech, UVa, LU and VMI have all been off for exams. LU is essentially eliminated from getting the #1 seed in the Big South. UVa and Tech have a shot to make the 8-team field at the ACC Tournament. UVa is in as of now but still need wins. Tech needs a significant amount of wins and possible some help along the way depending on their ability to win. They have done well in close games. We'll have coverage of all above teams this coming weekend.

FYI - avoid Wards Road this weekend. With Mitt Romney speaking and LU's graduation it'll be a zoo over there, even more than it normally is.

Virginia Tech's James Johnson has hired assistants: Read the full story{}here.{}

I was there in Blacksburg when Johnson was introduced as Tech's newest head coach. I wasn't overly impressed but impressed. He said all that you would expect a new hire to say. He was able to get Marshall Wood to stay but could not get Montrezl Harrell. Harrell will probably go somewhere 'bigger' than Tech. Plus Dorian Finney-Smith said 'so long.' The freshman was good last year and would have been better this coming season. No word yet on where he'll transfer. That means Tech has 8 scholarship players as I type this. We saw what UVa did with 7 healthy guys last year. They competed but were outmatched and ultimately destroyed by Florida in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. So if you're a Hokie fan, hope those 8 players stay healthy.

As always, rock it out.
