JF Cross Country Reacts to Winning State Championship

Forest - The Jefferson Forest girls cross country team is celebrating a state championship.

The Cavaliers, led by head coach Jerome Loy, captured the Group 4A State Championship Friday at the Great Meadow facility in The Plains in northern Virginia.

It's the Cavaliers' first team title since 2001, topping district rival and state runner-up E.C. Glass.

Carsen Wilkerson, JF SENIOR TEAM CAPTAIN, said "It means everything, it really does. It was the most amazing thing of my life actually, and I think probably of everybody else's."

Erin Saunders, REGION INDIVIDUAL CHAMP, STATE RUNNER-UP, said "I don't know, we haven't done it in so long. It was like, it was disbelief, it was like shock, it didn't really hit us all until like the next day really because it just felt like a dream, it was so amazing."
