Iraq War Veteran to Speak at D-Day Memorial
Bedford, VA - A local Iraq war veteran will share the challenges service members face when returning home from war on Monday at The National D-Day Memorial.
1st Lt. Louis Alvey is a Bedford Native and Veteran Peer Specialist with the Virginia Wounded Warrior Program. Alvey will be the guest speaker at the memorial's Veterans Day event.
"We're here. There are plenty of resources. There are resources in the community that are here to support you and support your family in this transitional time", said Alvey. "We can meet them at that level. Share experiences. Tie them in with resources that we've either established or we've utilized ourselves."
"I really think that as American citizens we have an obligation to support our veterans in whatever way that we can and be really aware of those issues that they're facing and their families", said National D-Day Memorial Co-President April Cheek-Messier.
The event is at 11 a.m. Monday at The National D-Day Memorial.
